City of Architecture: Barcelona, Spain (Part 2)

Casa Batlló

After seeing La Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell, you think it can’t get any better, but you realize that you are wrong as soon as you find yourself gazing upon another of Gaudí’s wondrous works, Casa Batlló. Casa Batlló is a house that must be touched; it is not enough to adore the beauty with your eyes, you must feel and experience it with your hands. Gaudí inserts his inspirations in every little detail of the apartment, from door knobs to window shapes to ceiling patterns. There is no word that can adequately describe the glory of this place.
You are able to enjoy the tour of this place at your own pace. Whether you choose the guided tour or decide to take on Casa Batlló on your own, you will be surrounded by a beauty like you’ve never seen before. One of the first things that will catch your eyes are the marvelous brilliance of the stained glass windows, but make sure you keep moving on throughout the house to get to the balcony area embellished by the familiar tiled mosaics. Although you’ve already seen Gaudí’s mosaics, the beauty does not fail to catch your attention once again. Don’t be fooled to think it ends here, because you haven’t even experienced the rooftop yet. As you rise towards the rooftop, you will be surrounded by a sea of blue mosaics, whose tint becomes lighter and lighter as you get closer to your destination. The rooftop is the perfect finish to an already awesome experience in the Casa Batlló; you will be blown away. Gaudí’s works are enjoyable and inspiring at any and all times in a day, but there is nothing like witnessing this rooftop as the sun sets behind the Mediterranean.
A visit to Casa Batlló will only leave you with the fondest of memories. My heart still smiles thinking about it today. As the official website for Casa Batlló describes it, it is an architectural smile. Although most tour guide books advertise a mandatory visit to La Sagrada Familia and Parc Güell, I personally highly recommend the heart-warming experience at Casa Batlló.
